Disney debuted a first look at upcoming Pixar film Soul at the D23 expo and announced the main voice cast.
Jamie Foxx stars as Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher whose true passion is playing jazz. After a successful gig at the Half Note Club, he suddenly gets into an accident that separates his soul from his body and is transported to the You Seminar, a center in which souls develop and gain passions before being transported to a newborn child. There, he meets a soul-in-training named 22 played by Tina Fey. Together, the two are going to find a way to get Joe back to Earth, making him think again about what it truly means to have soul.
The voice cast also includes Questlove, Phylicia Rashad as Joe’s mother Libba and Daveed Diggs as Joe’s nemesis, Paul. The original score will come from Oscar-winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, with new jazz music from Jon Batiste.
Soul is set to premiere June 19, 2020.
