Jamie Foxx Will Star In ‘The Jeffersons’ Live Special

Jamie Foxx is set to play the legendary George Jefferson character in the upcoming ABC special live event titled Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s All in the Family and The Jeffersons.

The live 90-minute event will re-create an original episode from both Emmy-winning Norman Lear comedies, The Jeffersons and All in the Family. Lear and Jimmy Kimmel will host the night, with Emmy winner James Burrows directing.

The Jeffersons was a spin-off of All in the Family. Both series were groundbreaking shows that changed American television. The Jeffersons was the first television series to feature an interracial couple, and it would go on to be one of the longest-running African-American shows on TV. The series followed George and Louise Jefferson moving on up to the East Side of Manhattan from Queens and showcasing what it was like to be successful in a predominantly white world.

All in the Family ran from 1971 to 1979, and The Jeffersons ran from 1975 to 1985.

In this new, one-night-only event, the All in the Family remake will feature Woody Harrelson in the role of Archie Bunker, alongside Marisa Tomei who will be playing Edith Bunker. In The Jeffersons remake, Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes will play George and Louise Jefferson. Ellie Kemper will play Gloria Stivic; Will Ferrell will appear as Tom Willis, and Justina Machado is set to play Florence Johnston.

The live production of The Jeffersons and All in the Family, will air Wednesday, May 22nd from 8-9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
