Sony is moving up Roland Emmerich’s action-thriller “White House Down” from November 1, 2013 to June 28, 2013.
The date change, announced Monday, puts the Channing Tatum-Jamie Foxx pic against Universal’s “R.I.P.D,” starring Ryan Reynolds, as well as Fox’s laffer “The Internship,” toplined by Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
“White House Down” stars Tatum as a Secret Service agent who leaps into action to defend the U.S. president (Foxx) when a paramilitary group storms the White House. Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods and Richard Jenkins co-star as well.
The film has a similar theme as Antoine Fuqua’s “Olympus Has Fallen”, starring Aaron Eckhart and Gerard Butler. That project is about an ex-Secret Service agent who must defend the White House from terrorists, so Sony might be trying to hit theaters first.
“White House Down” begins shooting Wednesday in Montreal.
