Jamie Foxx, fresh from painful disc surgery, was the last and arguably best guest to arrive at Harvey Weinstein’s pre-Critics Choice Award party at the Chateau Marmont. The shindig, designed to celebrate The Weinstein Company’s many nominees for the Critics Choice and Golden Globe Awards, was the kind where famous faces kept pouring in and out of the Chateau.
Jamie- sporting a scraggly goatee– told ShowBiz411.com all about his recent surgery on the C5 disc–yikes. He said, “My arm didn’t even move, it was dangling.” He demonstrated his pre-surgery condition. Luckily, doctors have repaired him.
Foxx is shooting Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained.” He told, “This movie will be historic. People will be talking about in 20 years.”
We also reminisced about his first ever music appearance years ago to Clive Davis’s famous pre Grammy dinner. Foxx was so awesome that Davis signed him. Foxx became a music star soon after. “That was my favorite thing to do,” he said, and added he’d return if Davis asked him. (Clive, that’s a hint.)
Shooting on Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, which had been set to start production in New Orleans this month, appears to be on hold for a few weeks.
There’s no official word on what’s behind the apparent delay but in the state’s most recent listing of projects, “Django” now boasts a February start.

Quentin Tarantino has found his leading lady. The director has hired For Colored Girls star Kerry Washington to play Jamie Foxx’s long-suffering wife in Django Unchained. The period drama is headlined by Leonardo DiCaprio and centers on a ruthless plantation owner who kidnaps a former slave’s wife.
Foxx stars as Django, a slave-turned-bounty-hunter, who’s on a mission to rescue his ladylove Broomhilda (Washington) from the evil Calvin Candie (DiCaprio). According to Deadline, Washington was Tarantino’s first choice for the Broomhilda role but he wanted to weigh his options before making a final commitment. In the end, his long and tedious casting search eventually brought him back to the actress.
Washington previously worked with Jamie Foxx in 2004′s Ray, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. The pair had amazing chemistry in the film, and Tarantino is hoping to capitalize on their established rapport.
Django Unchained is turning into a real ensemble piece complete with veteran actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Gerald McRaney and most recently Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Other actors who’ve yet to be confirmed but are rumored to star in Unchained include Don Johnson, Kurt Russell and Treat Williams.
Django Unchained is scheduled to open Dec. 25, 2012.

Quentin Tarantino wants Jamie Foxx to play the title character in the director’s upcoming film Django Unchained, according to Deadline. The actor is currently in talks for the lead role. Foxx would play a freed Southern slave attempting to recover his wife in a movie that’s been described as a violent Mississippi-set spaghetti Western. Christoph Waltz, who won a supporting actor Oscar for Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, is expected to play a German bounty hunter who teams up with Foxx’s Django, while Leonardo DiCaprio is circling the role of a nasty plantation owner who wins Django’s wife in a poker game.
Will Smith was previously considered for the title role, but reportedly passed, while Chris Tucker and Idris Elba were also rumored to be in the running. Tarantino, who wrote the script and will direct, is scheduled to start shooting in November. The Weinstein Company will release Django Unchained next year on Christmas Day.
