Jamie Foxx’s Character
Jamie Foxx voices Nico. Smooth-rapping canary is half of a Rio-dwelling dynamic duo also featuring Pedro the cardinal who are the epitome of avian cool.
- The film was based on a true story of a Spix’s macaw named Elvis, living in the United States. His owner agreed to let Elvis join the captive breeding program to help preserve his species.
- The crew visited Rio de Janeiro and also consulted with an expert on macaws at the Bronx Zoo.
- Nico (Jamie Foxx’s character) was named after the film’s music department artist.
- The movie was the 13th biggest grossing film of 2011.
Well for me, I was just trying to act. I’m doing all these things and he’s like, ‘You’re not actually on film.’ You actually have to get the voice right, which I felt was the greatest challenge. And then to look at it…we were seeing some of it for the first time and that blows you away because, just to be honest, a lot of times you go to animated films and you go, ‘It’s going to be dumbed down for the kids, and I’m just taking them…chained to my kid.’ But this right here I was like, ‘This is really wow.’ It’s got the wow factor. I just had a great time – Jamie Foxx describes his work on the movie.
