The City of Terrell is preparing to honor one of its own on Saturday as Oscar winning actor, Jamie Foxx returns home to receive the Key to the City, and to see the street on which he grew up renamed, “Jamie Foxx Way.”

Billboards have gone up along Interstate 20 displaying Foxx’s picture and his quote “My goals, my dreams, my values, started here” and preparations have been finalized for Foxx’s motorcade arrival through the streets of downtown Terrell.

Born Eric Marlon Bishop on December 13, 1967 in Terrell, Texas, Foxx was raised by his grandmother, lifelong Terrell resident Estelle Marie Talley. He grew up singing is the church choir and played Quarterback for Terrell High School.

Especially admired by the youth of Terrell for his many accomplishments as an actor, musician and comedian, Foxx’s long awaited and planned for homecoming is expected to draw in excess of five thousand fans to the streets of downtown Terrell.

Organized by the Terrell Chamber of Commerce with the assistance and support of The City of Terrell, Foxx will be delivered to Tiger Stadium on Moore Street where he will be greeted by numerous dignitaries including Texas Governor Rick Perry, Senator Bob Deuell, State Representative Betty Brown and the heads of both the Texas and Dallas film commissions.

Tickets to the Key to the City ceremony were disbursed by the Terrell Chamber of Commerce and a variety of Terrell churches and city officials are informing ticket holders that they may arrive at the stadium as early as 8:30 a.m.

The band Icehouse will perform while fans await Foxx’s arrival and the Tiger Booster club will be providing concessions.

Foxx’s motorcade will begin to make it way down Moore Street at 10:00 a.m. and the awards ceremony within the stadium will begin shortly thereafter.

Fans that do not hold tickets are encouraged to line up along Moore Street before 10:00 a.m. and churches holding left over tickets are being asked to return them to the Terrell Chamber of Commerce.
