Jamie Foxx ‘learned to live’ from sister with Down syndrome

The world knows Jamie Foxx as an Oscar-winning actor and a Grammy-winning musician, but he’s also a family man who’s especially close to his younger half-sister, DeOndra Dixon, who has Down syndrome.

Jamie recently chatted with Deadline for an upcoming episode of the show and was joined by DeOndra to talk about their relationship.

“I do feel down and sad and when he’s not here,” she admitted, prompting a comical reply from her older brother who couldn’t resist the opportunity for a joke.
“And what do you do? You text me. You say, ‘Where you at?’ And, ‘Where the money at?'” he smiled.

Jamie also shared how his little sister’s condition has helped him embrace life to its fullest.

“I learned how to live. Sometimes we get caught up in our world on the extras of everything — ‘Ah, the Mercedes is not the right color!’ And then you see this girl over here. ‘I just want to live. I want to dance. I want to love.’ She brings you back down to what life is.”

Foxx’s interview on Dateline airs Friday, August 31 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on NBC.
