White House, PBS to celebrate Motown with Jamie Foxx, Smokey Robinson

The next installment of PBS’ “In Performance at the White House” will salute Motown.

The event will tape Thursday, Feb. 24, in the East Room, and air nationally at 8 p.m. March 1. WMFE-Channel 24 will carry the program at that time.

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx hosts the concert and performs. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will host these announced performers: Motown legend Smokey Robinson, Natasha Bedingfield, Sheryl Crow, the group Gloriana, Nick Jonas, Ledisi, John Legend, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, Seal and “American Idol” champ Jordin Sparks.

The Obama White House also has hosted impressive specials saluting the music of Broadway, Paul McCartney and the civil rights movement.
